James W. Hoback Jr., M.D., FACC

The first physician in the Chattanooga area to perform a directional coronary atherectomy (DCA), Dr. James Hoback is on the forefront of cardiac advancements and remains an active interventional cardiologist. He is a Chattanooga native and attended The McCallie School where he received a Morehead Scholarship to attend The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee. He completed both his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis.

Dr. Hoback served as director of the Hennepin County Medical Center's Heart Station in Minnesota before moving to Chattanooga. He is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology.

Dr. Hoback is currently a member of the Chattanooga and Hamilton County Medical Society and the Tennessee Medical Association. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

He and his wife, Debra, reside on Signal Mountain and are active at Signal Crest United Methodist Church. He enjoys staying physically active with tennis, and plays both banjo and guitar, left-handed.
